Sloan Expand 'Twice Removed' Tour with More Canadian Dates

--taken from: Exclaim!

by Gregory Adams

As was hinted at yesterday (June 25), Sloan will be spending much of their fall promoting an upcoming triple-LP reissue of their beloved sophomore album, Twice Removed. We already knew that the act would be performing the album in its entirety when they hit Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom on September 14, but the group have now unveiled a new leg of dates that will have them cranking out the collection from the West Coast out towards the Prairies.

Sloan just posted the chunk of tour dates in a blog post, with several stops scheduled between B.C. and Manitoba taking place throughout September. There are a few of U.S. dates, too, and you can see the full itinerary down below. Additionally, East Coast dates are expected to take place sometime in October and November

As previously reported, the group will play the 12 tracks from their 1994 masterpiece, followed by a set of hits culled from throughout their career. We're hoping we'll truly get the full-album experience and Sloan brings former Jale singer Jennifer Pierce along on the trip to duet with guitarist Patrick Pentland on Twice Removed's soft-rockin' closer "I Can Feel It," but only time will tell if that wish comes true.

The quartet added that the details of the Twice Removed reissue, which apparently collects two bonus discs of demos and previously unreleased material, will be on their way shortly.

Tour dates:

7/12 Cornwall, ON - Kinsmen Lift Off *
7/21 Niagra Falls, NY - Hard Rock at the Falls Summer Series *
8/4 Port Colborne, ON - Canal Days *
9/5 Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge (Northwest Music Fest)

The Georgia Straight presents an evening with Sloan at the Commodore

--taken from: straight.com

Live Nation has announced that Toronto-based alt-rock group Sloan will be performing at the Commodore Ballroom on Friday, September 14, in support of the rerelease of its 1994 album, Twice Removed.

Consisting of guitarists Patrick Pentland and Jay Ferguson, bassist Chris Murphy, and drummer Andrew Scott, Sloan established its alternative pop voice and showcased its four distinctive songwriters with Twice Removed. The album is set to be reissued in a deluxe, triple-vinyl edition in September and, in celebration, the band is playing it in its entirety before delving into the rest of its catalogue.
Tickets for the show are priced at $25 (plus service charges and fees) and go on sale this Friday (June 29) at 10 a.m. on the Live Nation website.

Tickets are also available for purchase at all Ticketmaster Outlets and through Rogers Wireless Box Office.

And don't forget to become a fan of the Georgia Straight on Facebook and sign up for THE LIST newsletter for more concert announcements, contests, and exclusive “beat the lines” presale passwords.

Canadian indie darlings coming to Key City Theatre

--taken from: Kootenay Advertiser

Nominated for ten Juno Awards and sixteen East Coast Music Awards, SLOAN is on a cross Canada tour in support of the anniversary of their album, Twice Removed. Voted the “Best Canadian Album Ever” by Chart Magazine, Twice Removed has garnered SLOAN international acclaim.

SLOAN is four distinct songwriting voices — guitarists Patrick Pentland and Jay Ferguson, bassist Chris Murphy and drummer Andrew Scott — that nonetheless form a cohesive collective, long-time Toronto scenesters who will always call Halifax home.

All four members of SLOAN write their own songs, and when they play live they switch instruments accordingly. Usually the band performs with Murphy on lead vocals and bass, Pentland is also on lead vocals and plays lead guitar, Ferguson plays rhythm guitar, and Scott plays drums. The most notable exception is when Scott picks up the guitar to play his songs; Ferguson and Murphy switch to bass and drums, respectively.

MuchMusic and rock-radio regulars who maintain strong ties to their indie roots, SLOAN consider themselves money-city maniacs who instead of coasting on their cred, continue to challenge themselves with each record. 2011 marked the band’s twentieth year together.

“We are super excited to have Sloan coming to the theatre,” said Key City Theatre Managing Director, Patrick LeBlanc. “This is the first time they’ve been here and it’s going to be an awesome show. They’ll be playing all of their greatest hits. I can’t wait.”

Sloan Revisit 1999 with New Live Bootleg Album

--taken from: Exclaim!

by Alex Hudson

Late last year, Sloan paid tribute to to the '70s and '80s tradition of bootlegged LPs by releasing a fan-recorded live album as a limited vinyl release. Now, the Canadian rock survivors are doing a similar thing with Australia 1999, an official bootleg that will be available starting Tuesday (June 12).

This live LP will be a little less exclusive than the prior official bootleg, with 500 hand-numbered blue vinyl copies (rather than just 300) being pressed. Whereas the last one was a fan recording, this one was captured live off the soundboard on October 23, 1999, at Goldman's in Sydney, Australia.

In a post on the band's website, Sloan member Jay Ferguson wrote, "Perhaps by now you know of my love for the 1970's-1980's 'bootleg' LP aesthetic. Due to the enthusiastic demand for the Is That All I Get? live in Winnipeg 1993 vinyl LP we released last autumn, I've been allowed to indulge once again in creating another limited edition artifact."

He added that the show was in support of 1999's Between the Bridges. "It was a pretty heavy guitar onslaught," he explained of the show. "One listen to Andrew and Patrick's twin guitar war during 'Sensory Deprivation' and you'll know what I'm talking about, mate."

In addition to a photocopied interview insert, vinyl buyers will receive a digital download of the LP, plus four bonus tracks that didn't make the cut: "People of the Sky," "Iggy and Angus," "The N.S." and "Sinking Ships."

The record will be sold through Sloan's official store starting Tuesday.
