Over the past two decades, Sloan have made a name for themselves as one of Canada's most beloved power-pop acts, but it turns out that they've also got a major penchant for hardcore punk. The band have announced a new package including two original hardcore tunes, plus a digital covers album.
The two original songs are called "Jenny" and "It's in You, It's in Me," and they appear on a 7-inch in a limited-edition pressing of 500 hand-numbered copies. The former is filled with ferocious power chords and hollered vocals, while the flip is of the more pop-punk variety.
Listen to both songs at the bottom of this page, along with a lyric video for "Jenny" and an informative trailer about the project. In the clip, Chris Murphy notes that he wrote "Jenny" in 1988.
The 7-inch comes in a package with a T-shirt and a downloadable 12-song covers album. This is made up of some of the band members' favourites hardcore tunes from their youth, including songs by Bad Religion, Minor Threat, Black Flag and Circle Jerks, plus three tracks by Angry Samoans and two by 7 Seconds.
The package costs $24.99. It will be available to pre-order from SloanMusic.com starting on April 30.
