This isn’t a misprint: Sloan are putting out a series of hardcore releases tomorrow. First and most notably is a new seven-inch that features two new, punk-inspired originals. One of its tracks, “Jenny,” was unveiled last week after the band hit 20,000 Twitter followers.
(sidebar: they should have way more than 20,000 followers)
It’s their own take on Minor Threat’s caustic brand of punk, as evidenced by the Ian Mackaye-ish vocals and album art, which reinterprets one of the iconic punk band’s most well known images. On the b-side of the seven-inch is “It’s In You, It’s In Me,” which falls somewhere between the The Descendents and the Offspring; in either case, it’s a sharp turn from Sloan’s usual sound.
All of this is a celebration of their roots, one which culminates tomorrow with the release of a digital covers album that will see the band taking on songs by 7 Seconds, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Black Flag and, yes, Minor Threat and The Descendents, too.
The new 7″ can be preordered tomorrow for $25, which at first seems expensive until you realize it’s limited to 500 copies, is hand-numbered and comes with a rare, cool as hell t-shirt. Grab a copy at SloanMusic.com.
